John B. Ross Sr.
6/4/1933 -12/27/2012



Whitefield- John B. “Jack” Ross, Sr., 79, died December 27, 2012 at his home. He was born in Littleton, June 4, 1933, the son of Harold “Bill” and Isabel (Nute) Ross.



Mr. Ross worked most of his adult life for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation., beginning in 1951 as a member of a survey crew. He was called to military service in 1953.



After serving with the U.S. Army in Korea, he earned a degree in civil engineering at University of New Hampshire before returning to work with the D.O.T.



In 1968 he moved his family to Whitefield and assumed the duties of District Engineer, District One, with headquarters at Lancaster. He held that position until retirement in 1997.



He was a Master Mason, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, The National Rifle Association and several conservative organizations. As a member and past commander of the American Legion, he and his wife operated the Whitfield Legion’s youth baseball program for many years.



He enjoyed his family, his friends, people, his dog Piper, his piece of “God’s green garden” and his John Deere tractor. He also took pleasure in driving folks as a volunteer for the Caleb Interfaith Caregivers.



He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Richardson) Ross in 2006.



Mr. Ross is survived by his companion, Diane Barber of Bradford, VT; three sons Matthew S. Ross of Concord, Mark S. Ross of Mt. Juliet, TN., and John B. Ross, Jr. of Whitefield; a daughter Brenda J. Ross of Lancaster; a brother Ralph D. Ross of Littleton; four sisters, Nancy J. Stearns of Gilmanton, Mary Ann Foley of Gilford, and Terry Dee Atwood of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, a great grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre deceased by a sister Judith Bagley of Alton.



Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in his memory to Caleb Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, 38 King’s Square, Whitefield, NH 03598

To Johns family I send my depest heart felt sympathy to you all.John was an amazing man with much compassion for others.I use to enjoy going to the house when Barbra was alive and sitting in the sun room looking across the beautiful land.John was so sweet and thoughtful to always remember to still send me a christmas card even after barbra passed. Im going to miss chatting with him on facebook and swwing his warm smile all the time.I'm so glad I had the privelage of knowing him and to have had the pleasure of walking his beautiful land with him and piper more than once during the spring and summers.

It had been less than 4 years that we were together, but at a time that we needed each other so much. We were happy together and I loved him so much. i didn't get a chance to say goodbye.
