I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing and send my most sincere sympathy to all the Truland family. Shirley will be in my prayers and novenas as will all of you. My Dad, Forest Truland, and Dan were first cousins. He and my Mom loved Shirley and Dan and talked of them often. The last time I visited was when we went to my Grandfather's funeral and Shirley made a big meal for all of us and welcomed us with open arms. She was so gracious! I am very saddened today to hear of Shirley's passing. She was truly a favorite person of mine, that I too infrequently visited. I was forever grateful to her as my private nurse at Week's Hospital, following a 1972 surgery.
Coffee and conversation in the living room of your family's wonderful homey house, amid the chatter of two dozen finches at times, is the image I will likely hold for years to come.
A confident, capable, woman ... you can all be so proud of her.
We shared a love of animals and I will send a donation to Lancaster Humane in her memory. Many a pet that had passed on over the years was waiting for her at "the rainbow bridge", no doubt (plus surely a few things feathered and feral.)
