Jean M. Emerson
8/3/1939 - 1/9/2010





DALTON – Jean M. Emerson, 70, of Rooney Road, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded by her family.


 


Mrs. Emerson was born in Fitchburg, MA, on August 3, 1939, the daughter of Ernest P. and Helen (Daley) McGinty. 



Jean was raised in Holyoke, MA, and a graduate of Holyoke High School.  She was also a graduate of Bay Path College acquiring a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  During her working years she was employed at various companies as an office administrator or manager. 



In her retirement years she enjoyed doing volunteer work for numerous organizations such as the VFW, Lancaster, the Food Bank, the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster.  She was also helpful and caring to individual people in need.   Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, baking and cooking, tending her award winning garden, and caring for her dog Scooter and her many cats.



Family members include her husband Daniel E. Emerson of Dalton; a son Robert H. Fountain and his wife Cathleen of Dalton; a daughter, Susan D. Williams and her husband David of Dalton; eleven grandchildren, Tina Heard, Jeana Morse, Kathleen Fountain, David L. Williams Jr., Matthew H. Williams, Emmalee A. Williams, Kristin T. Williams, Shane Fountain, Julie A Murphy, Mark J.P. Murphy, James D. Murphy; and seven great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by an infant daughter Kathleen.



She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Lancaster.


 


Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening January 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster.  Rev. Aaron Cox of Littleton will officiate. 


 


Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to the Christ United Methodist Church, 135 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
