Elmer H. Gilman Jr.

LANCASTER- Elmer H. Gilman Jr., 71, died Wednesday evening, February 28, 2007, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Manchester.

Mr. Gilman was born in Littleton, NH on October 1, 1935, the son of Elmer H. and Muriel P. (Stiles) Gilman.

Elmer was raised in Whitefield and was a 1953 graduate of Whitefield High School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Lancaster after his marriage to his wife Patricia Buteau on February 23, 1957. He was employed by Groveton Paper, Diamond International and James River starting in the accounting department and then becoming purchasing agent, retiring after 34 years.

Elmer loved music and it was a big part of his life. He particularly enjoyed playing the trumpet and performed with the All State Band in high school and was in a local dance band known as the LA 49er's. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling to warmer climates.

Elmer was a member of John W. Weeks Post 3041, Lancaster, and American Legion, Groveton and a former board member of the Lancaster Fair, and of the Jaycees.

He was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster.

Family members include his wife of 50 years Patricia Gilman of Lancaster; a son Jeffrey Gilman and his wife Jane of Lancaster, two daughters Tricia Bishop and her husband Allan of Dover, Sherri Marquis and her husband Alan of Somersworth; 7 grandchildren, Courtney, Griffin, Lauren, Bradford, Arielle, Evan and Meredith; a brother Gene Gilman and his wife Sonja of North Woodstock; a sister Geneva Gilman and her husband Robert of Sebring, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday March 5, afternoon and evening from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.
