LANCASTER - Joe Gallegos, 66, died Saturday morning, March 21, 2020, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a sudden illness.

Joe was born in San Francisco, California on May 10, 1953, the son of Joe and Elaine (Hughes) Gallegos. He was a 1971 graduate of John O. Connell High School, San Francisco and then served 20 years with the US Air Force Security Forces retiring as a Tech Sergeant.

After retirement from the military he worked for Lockheed Martin and later the Berkeley City Police Department. His last job in California was as a corrections officer for the Solano County state prison system in Fairfield, CA. After meeting and later marrying Beverly Bartlett of Lancaster, NH, he moved to Lancaster permanently. Joe was an active member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post 3041, Lancaster. He served there as the Post and District 1 Quartermaster and was a member the Posts Honor Guard. He also was a member of the Military Order of the Cooties where he served as Seam Squirrel, Keeper of The Crummy Record, Keeper of the Crummy Duffle Bag.

Joe was an avid sports fan; the San Francisco Giants were his home team. He loved to travel and Maui was his favorite vacation place. Joe loved people. Paradise to him was sitting at the bar, drinking a Bud light, playing Keno and watching sports. His greatest love however was his grandkids, he gave his all to them.

Surviving family members include his wife of 22 years, Beverly (Bartlett) Gallegos of Lancaster: three children, Brandi Sander and husband David of Ridgefield, WA, James Dufour and wife Rachel of Burlington, VT, Jennifer York and husband Danny of Loudon, NH; grandchildren Sydnie, Caitlin, Erickson, Mathis, Coralyn, Aurora, Aidan, Rebecca, Prudence, Juliet, Nico; and a sister Darlene Kamelamela of Fairfield, CA. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Michael and Dennis.

A private graveside will be held in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. A celebration of life with military honors will be held at a later date, an announcement will be made prior.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to the John W. Weeks VFW Post 3041, 259 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
