Lewis Dale Cassady

LANCASTER - Lewis Dale Cassady, 76, of Portland Street, died Wednesday evening, December 13, 2017, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, due to complications from recent surgery.

Mr. Cassady was born in Monroe, NH on April 10, 1941, the son of Arthur Allen and Amanda Melvina (Locke) Cassady.

Lewis worked his entire life as a mechanic and shop foreman specializing in diesel equipment. He initially worked at Roberts Motor Sales for Butch and John Roberts who later opened White Mountain Mack where Lewis ran the service department. He later worked for Currier Motor Sales and then semi-retired and started Cassady Small Engine Repair at his home on Portland Street. His business was very successful and grew into a more full time operation including sales and service. Lewie was well known for his work and served customers from as far as Pittsburg to Monroe.

Lewie had many interests including outdoor activities like boating and snowmobiling. In the yesteryear of the Lancaster Grand Prix he not only raced snowmobiles but souped up many sleds for other participants. He and Colleen enjoyed travelling. They particularly loved Alaska and made many trips there. Lewie was generous and helpful to many and loved his family dearly.

Surviving family members include his wife Colleen Denise (Graham) Cassady of Lancaster; three children Cheryl Ann Veno and husband David of North Conway, Lewis William Cassady and wife Daphne of Lancaster, Kevin Dale Cassady and wife Brandy of Lancaster; step-children Michelle Starr Diebert and husband Charles of Sanford, FL, Meredith Willey of Groveton, Robyn Leighton and husband Dale of Bryant Pond, ME; son-in-law Thomas Bergeron of Cheshire, CT; three siblings, Norma Cassady of St. Albans, VT, Michael Cassady of Littleton, Linda MacGowan of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Austin, Alec, Ansen, Christopher, Tanner, Dale Jr., Braylee; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Tina M. Bergeron; a grandson, Stephen Bergeron; and siblings Ella Clough, Audrey Bogie, Pauline Ingraham, Marie Cassady, Louise Cassady, Arthur Cassady, Allen Cassady, Roger Cassady and Velma Lucas.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, December 19, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Pauls Church in Lancaster. Reverend Timothy Brooks will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring in the North Monroe Cemetery. Lewis served with the National Guard, military honors will also be held at that time.
