Long time resident of Lunenburg, Vermont and of a Dairy Farm in Jefferson, New Hampshire Mark Sweeney passed quickly due to a heart-related event at home on Sunday, June 28, 2020.
Mark was born in 1923, fifth of nine children to John and Ada Sweeney; and was raised in Millsfield, New Hampshire. Mark attended school in Errol and Colebrook, New Hampshire before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Mark served with the rank of Sargent under General George S. Patton during World War II.
Returning home in 1946, Mark soon married Irene A. Olson of Wilsons Mills, Maine. They bore and raised five sons - Mark, Bradford, Steven, Alan and Michael.
Mark farmed in Millsfield and Jefferson New Hampshire for many years while being very active in civic affairs and community organizations such as city planning, selectman, and school board. Later, Mark pursued a career in the Insurance Industry.
Mark retired in his seventies and moved with his wife to Lunenburg, Vermont where he maintained several gardens as well as pasturing livestock for others.
Mark was gifted in crafting traditional snowshoes and handmade bows and arrows. He was happiest being outside. Mark enjoyed hunting, hiking, snowshoeing; but, his passion was gardening. He always raised a little extra in his garden for friends and neighbors to enjoy!
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
