Richard M. McGinnis

LANCASTER - Dick McGinnis, who graced this world and all who knew him for 81 years with joy and humour, passed away peacefully at his home to be with his heavenly Father in the early hours of the New Year, January 1st. His fun-filled personality and twinkle in the eye will long be remembered with love and a smile. He was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire on February 9, 1943, to Barbara (Carr)and Leo McGinnis. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in England, where he met his wife of 57 years, Annetta. They had two daughters, Jessica (Coy), and Heather (Odell), each giving them two wonderful grandchildren, Charlie, Emily, Sophie and William. He also served in the New Hampshire National Guard as the Medical Officer. He earned his B.Sc degree in Nursing at St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, and his Master’s degree in Nursing Administration at Boston College. He returned to the North Country in 1979 to be part of that community and to have a farm with animals which they did while the girls were young. He also enjoyed taking his grandchildren into the woods to cook hot dogs and share an apple which he cut with his old pocketknife. He was Director of Nursing at the old Littleton Hospital for 8 years, then switched careers to become a Real Estate Agent with Peter Powell Real Estate, where he sold homes to half the north country and nearby Vermont towns. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster, former member of the Lancaster Rotary Club and served on the Col. Towne and Hospice boards. He is survived by his wife, Annetta, his daughters Jessica (and Justin Carter), Heather and Jake Odell, his grandchildren, his sister, Judy (and Glen) Mudre, and brother, Peter (and Sue) McGinnis, and many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Andy and Bill. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 113 Main Street, Lancaster, on Saturday, January 25th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Alzheimer's association or North Country Hospice. There will be a private interment of ashes in the Spring.
