LUNENBURG, VT - Walter R. Dow, 84, of Pond Hill Road, died Tuesday evening April 22, 2008, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Lyndonville, VT.
Mr. Dow was born in Gilford, NH, on February 28, 1924, the son of Richard and Susie (Willard) Dow.
Walter was one of eight children raised on the family farms in Gilford and later Laconia. He continued working on various farms in Southern New Hampshire until 1974 when he went to work at the Allen-Rogers Corp in Laconia, retiring there in 1986. During his lifetime he constructed four homes and one camp including his final home in Lunenburg that he built in 1992. Walter loved spending time with his family and never forgot is farming days.
Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years, E. Ann (Buckley) Dow of Lunenburg, VT; five children, Sandra Hadley of Navarre, Florida, Donald Dow of Belmont, NH, Deborah Derrick of Meredith, NH, Betty Dow of Lunenburg, VT, Glendon Dow of Lancaster, NH; a brother Harry Dow of Laconia; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. One grandson predeceased him.
At Walter's request there are no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon, April 26, at 1:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, NH. Reverend Ernie Gault, pastor of the Twin Mountain Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery, Meredith Center, NH.
