MAIDSTONE - Charles William Fitch II, 80, of East Side Lake Road, died peacefully at his Maidstone Lake home Sunday evening, March 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and dog Molly.
Charlie was born in Lancaster on January 28, 1938 the son of William S. and Annie (Mason) Fitch. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and New Hampton Preparatory School. For a brief time he also attended Boston University. On September 19, 1959 he married Mary Guilmette of Lancaster.
Charlie was the previous proprietor of Fitch Fuel Company of Lancaster, owned and operated by several generations of the Fitch family past and present. For many years he operated the oil, gas, plumbing and heating business until retiring in the early 1980's.
An avid outdoorsman, Charlie was a skilled hunter and fisherman. He loved sports of all kinds and was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. Woodworking was a favorite hobby of Charlie's, where he specialized in the creation of many unique clocks and Adirondack chairs.
He was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Charlie served his community as a past member of the Lancaster Planning and Zoning Board.
Surviving family members include his wife Mary G. Fitch of Maidstone; five children and their spouses, Marilyn A. Foss (Tom) of Guildhall, Charles W. Fitch III (Kelley), Patti Rexford (Randy), John Fitch (Shelly), Margo Cliche (Andy) all of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren, Derek Foss, Christopher Foss, Jillian Colby, Chelsea Cantin, Lindsey Dingman, Brandon Rexford, Brittany Rexford, Benjamin Rexford, Joshua Fitch, Katlynne Marois, Mary Rouillard; 12 great-grandchildren, Caleb Foss, June Foss, Landin Foss, MacKenzie Foss, Calvin Foss, Maizy Colby, Sadie Colby, Burkley Colby, Charley Dingman, Grayson Dingman, Jack Marois, and Travis Rouillard. He was predeceased by a son Peter Fitch; a brother Jimmy Fitch; and two grandchildren, Mason and Olivia Cliche.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday evening, March 15th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Matthew Mason, pastor, will officiate. A graveside committal service will be held Saturday, May 19th at 1:30PM in the Smith-Gardner-Shoff Cemetery in Brunswick, VT. (Cemetery access road is to your immediate left at the entrance of Maidstone Lake Road)
