GROVETON - Craig E. Hersom, 56, of Melcher Street, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 of a sudden heart attack while loading hay in Lunenburg.
Craig was born in Lancaster on April 7, 1956 the son of Ralph E. "Whitey" Hersom and Clara M. (Ball) Gregory.
He was a longtime Groveton resident and graduate of Groveton High School. Craig also attended Berlin Vocational where he studied forestry. For many years he was a self employed logger and also worked for several asphalt paving companies including Pike Industries.
He had a love for draft horses and horse pulling. He was a member of the Eastern Draft Horse Association and participated in horse pulls with Emmett and Jeff Towle.
His greatest enjoyment was spending time at camp on Neal Pond in Lunenburg. Craig also loved children and was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was a friend to many people.
Other memberships include the Sons of the American Legion, Groveton and John D. Weeks Post #3041, Lancaster.
Family members include his parents Clara M. and John C. Gregory of Whitefield; three sisters Rebecca E. Bernard and her husband Jack of Groveton; Kathi A. Mitchell and husband Kenneth of Texas, Jennifer L. Chauvette and husband Roger of Groveton; a brother Nathan A. Hersom and wife Christine of Sanbornton; two step-brothers, John M. Gregory-Davis and wife Susan of Meriden, James A. Gregory and Wife Eileen of East Burke; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and a great-nephew. His father Whitey predeceased him
Visiting hours will be held Saturday morning February 9, from 10:00AM to 12:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home. A service will follow immediately after at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Reverend David Taylor will officiate. Cremation will follow with a spring interment of his ashes in Northumberland Cemetery.
