Gerald P. Bresnahan

LUNENBURG - Gerald P. Bresnahan, 85, of Colby Road, died holding the hand of the love of his life, Reta, Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center in Lancaster. Jerry was born in Gilman, VT, on June 30, 1933, the son of Edmund M. and Villa F. (Blaney) Bresnahan. He was raised and played in the streets of Gilman along with his five brothers. Jerry attended elementary and middle school there and was a high school graduate of Lancaster Academy. He subsequently started work at the Gilman Paper Company and was employed there for 46 years. There, thru the new ownership by Georgia Pacific and Simpson Paper Company became the mill superintendent during his last 10 years. After Jerry's "retirement", he and Reta decided to build their dream home in the hills of Lunenburg. Doing this not as a necessity but as an act of love because they wanted all their kids AND their kids to come back and visit often. Jerry also sold firewood, which he cut, split and delivered well into his early 80's. He enjoyed activities such as golfing, hunting and snowmobiling. He was a member and past president of the Lunenburg Polar Bears snowmobile club. Even though Jerry couldn't read a note of music, he was a gifted singer. His family enjoyed listening to his beautiful tenor voice at home, as a member of the Jefferson Community Chorus and at All Saints Church in Lancaster where he was a communicant. Surviving family members include his wife Reta (Montgomery) Bresnahan of Lunenburg; 7 children, Michael Bresnahan and his wife Margaret of Lunenburg, Rebecca Haskins and husband Terry of Richmond, NH, Timothy Bresnahan and wife Marcella of Flagstaff, AZ, Andrew Bresnahan and wife Debra of Liverpool, NY, Suzanne Bresnahan of Charlestown, NH, Carol Gillen of North Woodstock, NH, Peter Bresnahan of Dorchester, MA; Linda Bresnahan of Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, William Bresnahan and wife Patricia of Medway, MA, John Bresnahan and wife Barbara of Yorktown, VA, James Bresnahan of Monroe, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Thomas Bresnahan and Robert Bresnahan and two brothers, Millard Bresnahan and Donald Bresnahan. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening, January 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at All Saints Church in Lancaster at 11:00 AM. Reverend Matthew Schultz, pastor, will officiate.
