Obituary for Charles L. Aremburg

GILMAN – Charles L. Aremburg, 86, of Commercial Avenue, died Thursday morning, November 1, 2018 at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield.

Mr. Aremburg was born in Gilead, Maine, on April 28, 1932, the son of Leroy H. and Evelyn P. (Wilson) Aremburg. He was raised in Haverhill, NH, where he attended Haverhill Academy and worked at many local farms there.

Charlie was a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Korean Conflict as an aircraft mechanic with the VF-22 Fighter Squadron on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain. He also served on the USS Tarawa and was a reservist with the US Army and US Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

On January 26, 1957 he married Pauline E. Lefrancois in St. Theresa’s Church in Gilman. Charlie worked most of his lifetime as a papermaker at the Gilman Paper Mill retiring there in 1993 under the ownership of Simpson Paper Company. For many years he operated his own firewood business selling wood he cut, split and delivered. He was an avid sportsman and with his encouragement he passed along his love of hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. As often as he could he would attend events his grandchildren were involved in. Charlie also enjoyed travelling the US particularly to attend reunions of his shipmates from the Navy. Over the years he made many of these trips with his wife, daughter or granddaughter Jennifer.

Surviving family members include his three children David Aremburg and his wife Rita of North Concord, VT, Kevin Aremburg and his wife Eydie of Waterford, VT, Carla Amadon of Gilman; seven grandchildren Jennifer Amadon and companion Tom Hatfield of Jefferson, Hilary Bradshaw and her husband Justin of Monroe, Jason Amadon and wife Amanda of Lunenburg, Dr. Kelly Aremburg and companion Dr Matt Gutzmer of Grand Jct., Colorado, Nathan Aremburg of Morrisville, Adam Aremburg and fiancée Brittney Cherrier of St. Johnsbury, and Ryan Aremburg of Waterford, VT; great grandchildren Hollyn and Hudson Bradshaw of Monroe, NH, Madyson and Makenna Amadon of Lunenburg and Dakota Hatfield of Jefferson. He was predeceased by Pauline; a son Jeffrey Aremburg and Carla’s fiancé Ed Alenckis.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday, November 13th at 11:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Littleton. Reverend Gerry Piper, Pastor of the Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, VT, will officiate. Because hunting season was a favorite time of year for Charlie, hunting attire is welcomed for the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to Special Olympics Vermont, 16 Gregory Drive, Ste 2, S. Burlington, VT 05403-6015 ( https://give.specialolympics.org/page/contribute/vermont )
