Ilse Altherr

With great sadness we wish to inform you of the passing of Ilse M. Altherr. She passed peacefully in her home on October 3 surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old, born in Germany but emigrated to Bogota Colombia as a WW2 refugee. She came to the United States in her twenties via her employment with the airlines.

Ilse lived an extraordinary life full of achievement as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her passion and skill for needlework was respected by those attending her classes across the country and from her numerous authored books on the subject. She leaves behind her husband of 66 years Eric Altherr, two children Stephen Altherr of Pittsburgh PA and Heidi (Mark) Kulik of Philadelphia PA. She had 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. As per the family’s request, no funeral or memorial service is planned.
