Obituary for Joan C. Boutin

GROVETON, NH/FROSTPROOF, FL - Joan Boutin, 83, of Frostproof Florida and longtime resident of Groveton NH, passed away at her daughter’s home in Groveton on August 22, 2019 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Alicide and Alida (Nailer) Bean, in Lancaster, NH on May 21, 1936. Joan was a graduate of Groveton High School, the class of 1954.

Joan married Marcel (Charlie) Boutin in 1957, they lived together and raised their family in and around Groveton for forty years. Upon retirement Joan and Charlie relocated to Frostproof for the winter months and returned to Groveton each summer.

Joan worked many years at the Groveton Paper Mill but she is best known for the years she spent providing childcare in her home for many families in Groveton. She not only nurtured and helped raise many children throughout those years she also welcomed and housed some family members who found themselves needing a place to stay. Joan also became the surrogate “Mom” to many of her children’s friends.

Joan loved to knit, crochet, and sew. She made so many homemade items for friends, families, and even strangers who would see something she made and ask her to make it for them. She also knitted or crocheted lap blankets for patients at a local hospital in Florida. Family, friends and extended family knew they would receive a knitted or crocheted sweater, hat or blanket when expecting a baby. She also made beautiful homemade quilts for each one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each quilt was made with love and time to ensure she included personal interests or favorite colors into each quilt.

Joan was also an avid Bingo player while in Florida. She looked forward to Monday and Thursday night during the winter months when Bingo was up and running at the park where she lived. She would get on her bike and get there early enough to get her favorite seat and have a hot dog before the game began.

Joan is survived by four children: Betty Gilcris, of Groveton; Pamela Michaud, of Webster; Kenneth (Brenda) and David (Margaret) Boutin, of Groveton, a son-in-law for 25 years; Peter Michaud of Loudon, her Sister; Adelene Wagner, and Brothers; Bob (Tammy) and Buddy Bean. She also leaves seven grandchildren (Tracey, Hilary, Angie, Travis, Jon, Jamie and Ben) and eight great-grandchildren (Ethan, Lukee, Tyson, Brantley, Brooke, Rozalyn, Broc, and Payton), several nieces, nephews, and in-laws, which include Maurice and Rena Boutin who have spent several years helping and supporting Joan as her health declined as well as very special friends she made in Florida; Shirley and her husband Pat and her neighbor Bill.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 45 years; Marcel, her Son in law; Tracy Gilcris, soon to be Son in law; Arthur Labrecque, Sister; Marlene Breault and two grandbabies; Kami and Charles Gilcris.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Father Dan and the North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency staff who played an important role in the last days of Joan’s life.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday afternoon, August 29, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A memorial service will follow immediately at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Reverend Daniel Deveau, pastor of St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Joan’s name to the NH CHAD Foundation, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03766.
