Obituary for John V. Hooley

LANCASTER, NH – John V. Hooley, 74, of Garland Road, passed away at his home on April 1, 2019, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hooley was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 25, 1944, the son of John and Mary (Potenza) Hooley.

He was a longtime resident of Massachusetts and spent the bulk of his lifetime working as a musician in the Boston area and throughout New England. Early in his career he had a recording contract with G-Clef Records and toured with their production company. For a brief time he took acting lessons at Emerson College. His aspirations to become an actor ended when he was drafted by the US Army. He served in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967.

Returning home he was given new orders to be transferred to a base far from home. Wanting to stay in Mass, he made a personal visit to the office of Senator Ted Kennedy who he convinced to change his orders. Instead he was station at Fort Devens where he was a singer and entertainer for the troops until the end of his military career.

For the next 20 years he returned to work as an entertainer both as a solo performer and with various bands of different genres. For another 10 years he was a videographer taping many events and weddings. During that time he also published a Super 8 Films magazine. In 1970 he married the love of his life Suzanne Lee Hale. In 2000 he retired and they moved to Lancaster, NH. There they built their own home, a project he worked on throughout most of his retirement years.

Suzanne survives him and continues to reside in Lancaster; He is also survived by a brother Brian Hooley of Raleigh, NC.
