Obituary for June Baker Stearns

WHITEFIELD, NH – June Baker Stearns, 80, passed away on February 10, 2019 at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield, after a long period of declining health.

June was born in Norway, Maine on October 29, 1938, the eldest daughter of Lathrop and Etta (Hussey) Baker. She attended schools in Norway. She became a Licensed Nursing Assistant and worked at Stevens Memorial Hospital in Norway, prior to marrying Harry P. Stearns, Sr., of South Paris, Maine, on August 24, 1958.

Prior to moving to Whitefield in 1963, Harry and June lived in several Maine communities where Harry taught school.

June was a lifelong caregiver. She worked at Morrison Hospital for several years until the late Rev. George Harvey hired her as a companion and caregiver for his mother, Mamie. After Mrs. Harvey passed away, June continued to work for Father Harvey maintaining the rectory and gardens at St. Matthew Church in Whitefield and St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Tilton, NH.

June was an avid gardener and enjoyed crafting, cooking and watching wildlife.

Surviving family members include her husband of 60 years, Harry P. Stearns, Sr. of Whitefield; three children, Harry Stearns and wife Jan of Thornton, NH; Tenley Bouton and husband, Mike, of Whitefield; and Roger Stearns and wife, Christine, of New Boston, NH. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandson, Patrick Villaume of Easton, PA; Tyler Stearns, wife Lauren, and son Kieran Edward of Portland, ME; Andrew Stearns of Jamaica Plain-Boston, MA; Jenna Johnson and husband, RJ, of Windham, ME; and Tara Stearns of Chelsea.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, from 1-3 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
