Obituary for Roger J. Daigle

JEFFERSON - Roger Joseph Daigle I, 80, of Tower Hill Road, died at his home Wednesday, February 13, 2019. His death came suddenly after a period of failing health.

Mr. Daigle was born in Bristol, CT, on May 30, 1938, the eldest son of Antonio Emile and Eugenie Maria (Bilodeau) Daigle. When Roger was a young boy, his family moved from Bristol to Jefferson, NH where he was raised and helped operate the small family farm. Later, Roger went on to work at Weeks Hospital until he met and married the love of his life, Sharon (Masters) Daigle. The couple married on May 18, 1963. After the wedding and having had their first daughter, they moved to Nashua, NH, where they had their second daughter. In 1966, they returned to the North Country to raise their children and add a son to their family. On his return, Roger worked for PJ Noyes Co. and later as the head custodian for Regional Medical Professional Associates (RMPA), later named Weeks Medical Center, until he retired to care for his mother of failing health. Also, during his retirement, he worked part-time for The Lancaster National Bank and Passumpsic Bank.

Throughout his life, Roger was an avid hunter and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his immediate and extending family. He enjoyed singing, summer nights on the porch, building hang gliders and kayaks, and visits from his family and friends.

Roger was a longtime Communicant of the Gate of Heaven Parish where he could always be counted on to sit in the back of the church and assist with the latter part of the Mass, helping wherever he could. He was a member of Our Lady’s Blue Army: The World Apostolate of Fatima; a devout Catholic; and believed by many to be a holy man.

Surviving family members include his wife of 55 years, Sharon (Masters) Daigle of Jefferson; his children Lisa Daigle and partner Gary Brooks of Lancaster, Ellen Daigle-Ruch of Lancaster, Roger Daigle II and wife Carolyn (Gallagher) Daigle of Jefferson; his grandchildren, Jessica Ruch of Franklin, Gabe Payer of Jefferson, Chelsea Payer of Manchester, Jacob Payer of Jefferson, Amelia Daigle of Jefferson, and Alivia Daigle of Jefferson; his siblings, Aurore Hood of Lancaster, Denis Daigle of Littleton, Lorraine Patnaude of Jefferson, Louis Daigle of Jefferson, Connie Patnoe of Lancaster, and Richard Daigle of Burlington, VT; his foster siblings, Carlene Chase of Whitefield, and David Fortin of Long Island, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Eugenie Daigle, and great nephew Brendon Patnoe.

Roger was a man of considerable love; his sense of humor, dedication to family, compassion, and spiritual guidance will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours will be held Friday evening, February 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning, February 23, at 10:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Matthew Mason will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, please call Gate of Heaven Parish at 788-2083 for Mass Intentions. For more information or to send an online condolence visit www.baileyfh.net.
