LANCASTER - Addie Elizabeth (Hillier) Beattie, 85, died on May 27, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
She was born December 8, 1921, in Lancaster to H. Wesley and Sarah Jane (Mitchell) Hillier, the youngest of five children, all predeceased.
Addie was a graduate from Lancaster Academy in 1939 and also attended the University of New Hampshire. She was a past president of the Lancaster Business and Professional Women and current vice-president and former secretary of Colonel Town Senior Citizens who voted her an Honorary Member in 2006. She was an active member of the State Employees Association (retired chapter).
Her employment included five years as Income Auditor for the Mount Washington Hotel and thirty years as radio dispatcher and supervisor in the District 1 office of the NH Department of Transportation in Lancaster. She was widely referred to as the "Voice of the North Country" from which she retired in 1990.
Her hobbies included league bowling, former membership in Lancaster Snowmobile club, knitting, scrabble, crosswords and supporting her great-grandchildren in their various activities associated with Colonel Town.
Surviving family members include her son Michael Beattie and his wife Sally of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Karen Cormier, Shane Beattie, Kristen Evans, Sandy Belanger and Kricket Ingerson; ten great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Tyler, Spencer, Ben, Christopher, Patrick, Katherine, Courtney, Cameron and Gracie; nieces, nephews and cousins. Her Daughter, Susan Beattie Carpenter predeceased her in March of 2006.
A visiting hour will be held Wednesday morning May 30 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. Rev. Virginia Alvarez, pastor of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to The Lancaster Ambulance Association, %Ron Wert, 25 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584 or the Lancaster Fire Department, Middle Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
