WHITEFIELD - Alan D. Allen, 57, of Cherry Street, died suddenly Sunday morning October 4, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Allen was born in Hanover, NH, on June 14, 1952, the son of John and Evelyn (Howe) Allen.
Alan was a graduate of Lamoille High School. For many years he resided in Stratham, NH, and worked for Data General in Portsmouth.
He was the Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #1831 of Littleton, NH. He was also a member of the Eagles.
Alan enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, playing darts and fishing.
Surviving family members include his foster mother, since he was 11 years old, Dorothy Hutchins of Whitefield; brothers and sisters, Fred Allen of Camp Verde, AZ, Virginia Durphy of Windsor, VT, Joanne Nealie of Canaan, NH, Shelby Colbourn of South Strafford, VT, Adrian (Peanut) Allen of Enosburg Falls, and Jeannine Welsh Russell of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his foster father Archie Hutchins; a sister Patricia Allen of Bridgewater and a brother John Allen of Quechee.
A visiting hour will be held Saturday afternoon, October 10, from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held immediately afterward at 1:00 PM. Rev. Richard Phillips of Littleton, will officiate. An Elks service will be held at the funeral home following the funeral service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford, VT.
In lieu of flowers donations to offset funeral expenses for the family may be sent to Bailey Funeral Home, 210 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
