LUNENBURG - Albert J. Schmidt, 89, of East Main Street, died Sunday morning April 26, 2015 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Schmidt was born in Gilman on August 6, 1925 the son of Leroy Schmidt Sr. and Lena (Annis) Schmidt.
Albert was raised in Lunenburg and during WWII he worked in the shipyards in Bronx, NY. He returned to Lunenburg in December of 1955. For 10 years he was a sales representative for Metropolitan Life for and for 19 years he worked for Georgia Pacific in Gilman.
For 37 years he enjoyed snowmobiling in the North Country and was a lifetime member of the Polar Bear Snowmobile Club. He was also an avid brook fisherman.
Surviving family members include his three sons and a daughter, Alan L. Schmidt and wife Irene of Lancaster, Linda D. Gauvin and husband Victor of East Burke, Tracy S. Schmidt and wife Teri of Fairborn, OH, Terry J. Schmidt of Whitefield; two brothers Leroy Schmidt Jr. and Harold Schmidt; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His wife Gwendolyn G. (Fisher) Schmidt predeceased him on February 11
th
of this year.
At Albert's request there are no visiting hours. A graveside service for both Albert and Gwendolyn will be held in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, Lunenburg at the convenience of the family.
