LANCASTER – Jack Tillotson, 92, of Spring Street, died peacefully at his home Wednesday morning, December 27, 2023.
Jack was born in Littleton, NH, on October 24, 1931, the son of William A. and Natalie Frances (Willey) Tillotson. At 18 months of age his father died, and Jack was adopted and raised in Dalton by his uncle, Frank E. Tillotson. Jack was the husband of the late Mary E. (Ingerson) Tillotson, together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
In 1950, Jack graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School. From there he worked his entire career as a telephone lineman and was employed with various companies including Bell Telephone, AT&T, and NYNEX.
Jack was a 33rd Degree Master Mason and was a 50-year member of the North Star Lodge #8, Lancaster, where he served many years as secretary and historian. He loved the outdoors, especially working his woodlot or out for a hike. For his 60th birthday he hiked Mt. Washington with his granddaughter.
Surviving family members include his son John Tillotson (Jewel) of Grantham; his daughter Cynthia Colby (Robert) of Lancaster; his sister Mearline “Jill” Richard of Dalton; four grandchildren, Jesse Sheldon Tillotson, Christopher Feugill, Zachary Colby (Jamie), Marcus Colby (Samantha Goulet); and several great-grandchildren including his favorites, Lily and Parker, who gave him the name “Poppi”. Besides Mary, he was predeceased by an infant son William, and a granddaughter Mandy Elizabeth Tillotson.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening, January 5, from 5:00-8:00PM at the Bailey Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 6:00PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon, January 6, at 1:30PM at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, 142 Main Street. Reverend Pamela Spain, pastor will officiate. Burial will be held in the Spring at the convenience of the family in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
