WHITEFIELD - Alexander John Kopp, 88, died suddenly at his home Saturday evening January 24, 2009.
Mr. Kopp was born in Mays Landing, New Jersey, on April 24, 1920, the son of John and Mary (Kaufmann) Kopp.
Al was raised in Brooklyn & Queens, NY. He attended St. Francis Prep School and St. Francis College, Brooklyn. During WWII he served with the US Army Air Corps in the China Burma India Theater. On July 1

, 1945 he married Joan Malone and they moved to Whitefield that same year.
For a year they owned and operated the Spruces Hotel and later purchased a farm house on Hall Road providing continued accommodations to guests. In 1959 Al established North Country Motor Sales that later became what is now North Country Ford in Lancaster.
Al was Communicant of St. Matthew's Church in Whitefield. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Central New Hampshire Model T Club. Since 1962 he has served as a trustee of the former Morrison Hospital and later Morrison Nursing Home.
Family members include his wife of 63 years Joan Kopp of Whitefield; a son Kevin Kopp and his wife Mary of Lancaster; two daughters, Kathleen Kopp of Whitefield, Sally Anne Maroon and her husband Bob of Booth Bay Harbor, Maine and Whitefield; 5 grandchildren, Allison Marro, Ethan Marro, Casey Maroon, Michael Kopp, Keith Kopp; and five great-grandchildren.
At Al's request there are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated
Thursday morning, January 29, at 10:00 at St. Matthew's Church, Whitefield. Reverend Raymond Ball pastor will officiate. Committal services with military honors will be held in the spring at St. Matthews Cemetery in Whitefield.
