Alfred Alphonse Gendreau, Sr

Alfred (Fred) Gendreau Sr., 90, passed peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022 at his
daughter’s home in Twin Mountain, NH. He was the third son of Clement and Clarine
(Laferriere) Gendreau and later became a big brother to their only sister, Theresa.

He married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Ferns on October 10, 1953 and together
raised eight children: Alfred (Fred) Jr., Columbia, NH; Carol (Michael) Lanctot, Berlin,
NH; Paula (Wayne) Chapple, Winter Haven, FL; Diana (Ned) Gendreau, Lancaster, NH;
Patti (Ron) Gendreau, Errol, NH; Bill (Carrie) Gendreau, Littleton, NH; Annette (Gerald)
Marquis, Twin Mountain, NH, and Rick (Holly) Gendreau, Perth, NY. In addition to his
children, he is survived by 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and two great-great
grandchildren (with two more great and one great-great on the way) as well as
numerous nieces and nephews; his sister, Theresa Gousie in MA; and his wife’s family -
Al (Rosemary) Ferns, Colebrook, NH; Florence (Bob) Deslauriers, CA; Louise (James)
Fredette, VA; Helen Bennett, NY; Lois (Ron) Whittemore, Claremont, NH. He was
predeceased by his loving wife, Betty, and daughter-in-law, Luanne, in 2021 and his
great-grandson, Aden Gendreau.

He served our country proudly in the US Navy and later moved to VT and then to NH to
farm. Over the years, he built three homes for his growing family, and after leaving
farming, was employed as a mechanic, for which he is best known. After retiring, he
moved to Florida where he enjoyed golfing, swimming, and being everyone’s
handyman. He loved life and people and will be remembered for his smile, laughter,
wisdom, and the stories he shared.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday,
September 29, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Church in Lancaster, NH at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Britto Adaikalam, pastor, will officiate.

A private burial at the VA cemetery in Boscawen, NH will take place at the family’s
discretion.
