JEFFERSON- Alice S. Pearse, 89, died October 24, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long illness.
Mrs. Pearse was born in Peabody, Massachusetts on August 17, 1918, a daughter of Peter and Helen (Pasternak) Shevchuk.
Alice first moved to Jefferson from Peabody, MA with her son in 1951 and resided at the McCabe Estate that was owned by her father. She worked and later managed Dorothy's Specialists Dress Shop in Lancaster. She returned to Peabody to work seasonally for her former employer Connolly Bank Specialists where she was a Junior CPA during World War II. Active in NH politics she campaigned for Perkins Bass and many other area politicians. She was also a bookkeeper for the Waumbeck Festivals in Jefferson and a volunteer for the White Mountain National Forest.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal, Gorham Women's Club, and Jefferson Adult Citizens.
Family members include her son Harry Pearse and his wife Christiane of Hingham, MA, two sisters; Doris Yaskell of Peabody, MA and Catherine Eckhardt of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
At Alice's request there are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 30, 2007 at 1:00 PM, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lancaster. Reverend John Jackson and Reverend David Rose, pastor at St. Paul's Church will co-officiate.
