Allen E. Holmes

GROVETON - Allen E. Holmes, 75, of Lost Nation Road, died at his home Sunday, December 19, 2021, after a recent illness.

Allen was born in Lancaster on July 3, 1946, the son of Clyde A. and Eleanor (Kenison) Holmes. He was raised in Jefferson and later Winchester, NH where he graduated high school. He went on to serve as a SeaBee for the US Navy Construction Battalion during the Vietnam War. Returning home, he met Linda Boutwell of Keene and they married on June 13, 1970. Moving back to the North Country they resided in Lancaster and Jefferson and eventually settled down in Groveton. He was self-employed for a few years before starting a job at the Groveton Paper Mill, where he was employed for 30 years until retiring in 2008.

Allen loved gardening and blacksmithing. He enjoyed being independent and doing his own thing, whatever that may be, each day was different.

Surviving family members include his wife Linda of Groveton; two children, Tina Wright of Littleton, Christian A. Holmes of Groveton; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother Alden Holmes and wife Jane of Jefferson; and a sister Gail Burns and husband Bill of Rochester, NH

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 7th at 1:00 PM in the Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson. Reverend Richard Boyden, pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, will officiate.
