Allvin Lawrence Leonard

Lancaster-Allvin "Whitey" Lawrence Leonard, 78, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday morning, December 3, 2012. He was born in Littleton, NH on January 28, 1934 a son to the late Carl and Rita (Johnson) Leonard.

Mr. Leonard graduated from Littleton High School in 1954 and was a 25 year veteran of the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked in law enforcement for most of his life. He started his career working for the Littleton Police Department, then the NH State Police and finally as the Chief of Police for the Town of Lancaster, a position that he held for 30 years.

Mr. Leonard was an avid deer hunter, who enjoyed going to hunting camp in Maine. He was a member of the North Star Lodge # 8 F. & A.M. along with both York and Scottish Rites having attained his 33rd degree, the Bektash Shrine, the White Mountain Shrine Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Bethlehem Country Club, Lancaster Snow Drifters, Groveton American Legion Post, the Lancaster VFW Men's Auxiliary and was a past member of the Lancaster Budget Committee. Mr. Leonard is also the Past President of the NH Chiefs of Police Association as well as the Past President of the New England Chiefs of Police Association.

Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife Rosalie (Cooper) Leonard of Lancaster, a son David Leonard of Dalton, a sister Loretta Funk of California, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Saturday December 8 from 11to 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home with a Masonic service being performed at 1 PM.

Burial will be held in the spring in Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton.
