Arthur J. Barney

LANCASTER - Arthur J. Barney, 73, died at his home Monday morning December 17, 2012, after a recent illness.

Mr. Barney was born in Lancaster on November 27, 1939, the son of Joseph and Rose (Smith) Barney.

Arthur was a long time resident of the North Country and has been a self employed logger for many years.  He has also worked in construction and as a mechanic, a carpenter, served in the Nation Guard and at one time was a tree surgeon in Boston.

His many interests included spending time with family, playing cards, hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed trips to Fryeburg Fair, Foxwoods Casino and camping in Maine.  Travelling to Florida and cross country was also a favorite.   He completed his lifelong dream of building his 1929 Ford Roadster Model A hot rod.

Family members include his wife Carolyn F. (Savage) Barney of Lancaster;  his children and their families; son Jeff Barney and wife Melody of Groveton, grandchildren Ryan Lynn Jordan and husband Kevin, Justin Barney, wife Steph and great-grandson Jacob; son Brian Barney and wife Melissa of Guildhall, grandson Josh Barney, wife Allison and great-granddaughter Mya Kaiti Barney; daughter Tina McKenzie and husband Richard of Maidstone, grandchildren Tonia, Crystal and Jessica McKenzie; son David Barney of Victory, granchildren Holly and Cameron Barney; and a sister Janette Gilbert of Jefferson.  He was predeceased by his parents.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening December 20, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A brief prayer service will be held at 8:30 to conclude the evening.
