Aurore M. Hood

September 21, 1935 — June 9, 2025

Aurore M. Hood, 89, of Lancaster, NH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 9, 2025. Born “Marie Hughette Aurore Daigle”, in Coaticook, Quebec, to Antonio and Eugenie Daigle, she spent her early childhood in Connecticut and at age 13 rode with her brothers in the rumble seat of an old Ford when the family settled on a dairy farm on North Road in Jefferson, NH. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Paul D. Hood, and they made their home in Lancaster, NH. Together for more than 62 years until his passing, they built a loving family, and a life centered on faith, community, and service.

She is survived by her four children—Denise Hood Boynton (Ray) of Lancaster, NH; Paul H. “Skip” Hood (Cathy) of Lancaster, NH; Dr. Carol Hood of Greenville, SC; and David Hood (Nellie) of Danville, CA—14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and siblings Denis Daigle, Richard Daigle, Constance Patnoe, Louis Daigle, David Fortin, Carlene Abbott, and Stephen Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul D. Hood; her parents; brothers Roger Daigle and David Chase; and sisters Lorraine Patnaude and Wendy Doyle.

Personal Passions At home, Aurore’s (“Aura’s”) kitchen was the heart of every gathering – filled with the aromas of her homemade treats and the warmth of her hospitality. She found great joy in baking for her family, organizing and hosting family gatherings, dancing with her beloved Paul, and hosting her many friends as she often did as a member of the Lancaster Snowdrifters. Her boundless energy and unconditional love made her the cherished matriarch of a large, close-knit family.

Career & Community Outside the home, Aurore was an accomplished businesswoman and a pillar of the Lancaster community she called home for over 70 years. Her love for the Great North Woods and its people helped define her life’s work.

A licensed REALTOR for over 30 years, Aurore played a major role in the real estate business of northern NH and VT, and in 2002 she founded “Aurore M. Hood Real Estate, LLC”. Over these many years she helped so many, as she would say, “make their dream come true”. She delighted her clients regularly with tours in her “all terrain” red JEEP to help them appreciate the beauty and historical significance of the region through her experienced eyes. Her sensitive approach helping families find their perfect home was matched only by her genuine care for the community she served. In addition to setting a high standard of excellence in her field, she donated much of her time to various community organizations and projects. Her professional commitment and dedication were recognized with numerous accolades, honors, and achievements, as follows.
