Barbara Jane Watson Scott

October 25, 1918 — October 17, 2017

Barbara Jane Watson Scott passed on at the dawn of October 17, 2017, in Whitefield, New Hampshire, a week shy of age 99.

In her youth called "Botcho," she was born in Buffalo, NY. She graduated Amherst Central High School (NY) and Dennison University, and began her teaching career in English and Drama at Amherst. There, she renewed a friendship with George P. Scott, whom she married in 1945. They honeymooned at the Silver Bay Association, where she had worked the front desk as an "EMP," continuing a family relationship with the institution that began with her parents, Penn and Edna (Keller) Watson, and continues today.

Barbara and George began their family near Amherst, then moved nearby to Orchard Park to raise their children. They retired to Highland Park, FL, but spent summers at their cottage in Silver Bay. After George's death in 1992, Barbara moved her winter home to the Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Barbara was active in community affairs in Orchard Park. She was founder of the Women's Committee of the Symphony, a trustee of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the school board, and a member of Literacy Volunteers. Perhaps more widely known in Orchard Park was her dog, Yogi, who was a mascot for the parcel post delivery driver.

Throughout her life, Barbara was prized by friends and acquaintances alike for her thoughtfulness and sustained interest in their families and concerns, her gorgeous smile, her lovely handwriting, and her place settings, even in her Silver Bay cottage. She was a knitter and a weaver.

She is survived by her four children: Bruce Scott (Anna Kunzler) of Sulphur, KY; David Scott (Geoffrey) of San Francisco, CA; Lucy Roberson (Dave) of Greenwich, NY; Marjorie ("Moocho") Salomon (Dan) of Littleton, NH; and an American Field Services son, Gerard Sautereau (Helene) of Paris, France. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Philip Scott, Catherine Larimore, Christopher Roberson, Eva Geiger, Ben Salomon, and Asher Salomon. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Samantha Larimore and Jonah Geiger.

A memorial service will be held during the summer of 2018 at Silver Bay. Her family expresses warm appreciation to her caregivers at the Morrison Nursing Home, 6 Terrace St., Whitefield, NH, 03598, an outstanding community nonprofit where contributions may be sent in lieu of flowers.
