WHITEFIELD - Bernard J. Poulin Jr., 69, died Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021 at the Lafayette Center, Franconia.
Mr. Poulin was born in Hartland, Maine on February 5, 1951, he was the son of Bernard and Clara Jane (Mooers) Poulin of Detroit, Maine. He attended schools in Detroit and Pittsfield and was a graduate of Dexter Regional High School, Dexter, Maine.
Following high school Bernard entered the Navy in August of 1971 where he served onboard the USS Albany CG-10 then onboard the USS Corey DD817. Bernard was a 3rd Class Bosun Mate when he received his honorable discharge in August of 1975. In October of 1975 Bernard joined the US Army and went to Ft. Knox for track and wheel vehicle mechanic school, then trained as a Calvary Scout. He went to South Korea and served with Alpha Troop 4th Squadron 7th Calvary 2nd Infantry Division for one year. Upon returning to Fort Knox, he served with D Troop 10th Calvary 194th Armor Brigade. Sergeant Poulin was then selected to test and train on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and brought it into the US Army Inventory. Sergeant Poulin was honorably discharged in April of 1981.
On October 24, 1981 Bernard married Linda Rea Dumas of Whitefield. For 28 years he worked as a long-haul over the road truck driver. Currier, ITC, MS Carrier, Elite Carrier, and Bellavance were some of the companies he worked for.
When Bernard was not on the road you could find him working around the house either mowing, training the horses, or being Santa Claus at the Eagles Club. You could also find him and Linda and BJ up in Pittsburg, NH camping and fishing in the Connecticut River or you would find them at the Lancaster Fair where Bernard was the ring master for 10 years at the horse shows.
He was a 4th Degree Knight and member of Council #1835 O'Neil, Littleton, NH.
He was predeceased by Linda in 2004; he is survived by his son Bernard J. Poulin II and his sister Connie Lowe and her family.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, May 5th, at 2:00 PM in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Whitefield. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor of the Christ the King Parish, Concord, NH, will officiate.
