The family of Betty (Withers) Montgomery of Groveton is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Sept 1, 2026 at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, NH at the age of 97. Betty was born on May 21, 1929 in Madison, Maine to Herman and Esther (Young) Withers. She attended school in Groveton and later married Roger Montgomery in 1947. Betty lived a full and active life. She was a family-oriented homemaker, raising five children and caring for her own mother until her passing in 1993. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Groveton for many years.

Betty is survived by her brother Dean Cushman of Florida, two sons William “Widgy” Montgomery (Kendra) of Midlothian, Texas and Richard Montgomery of Stark, NH and daughter Donna (Robert) Stinson of Groveton; twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Betty will be fondly remembered as a devoted family matriarch who loved cooking and baking. Crafting, sewing and reading were some of her many hobbies. She also loved to walk and would walk 4 miles everyday. Betty had a green thumb and if she wasn't in the kitchen she could be found in the garden or in her flower garden. Betty was predeceased by her husband Roger, her brother Thomas Withers of Pa., daughter Susan Suda of Georgia, and daughter Karen Merrow of Groveton. A graveside service will be held at the Northumberland Cemetery on Monday, September 28th at 11am.Betty’s family wishes to thank North Country Hospice and the Lafayette Center in Franconia, NH for their compassion and care in Betty’s final days.
