GILMAN-Betty A. Quigley, 70, of Gilman, VT, died suddenly on Monday, July 28, at Weeks Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Concord, VT, on October 10, 1937, a daughter of Miles and Annie (Rooney) Quigley, she graduated from Concord High School before moving to Virginia to attend a special school for physically disabled students. After successfully completing her education, Betty relocated to Barton, VT, where she worked as a nurse's aide in Orleans.
She eventually returned to Gilman where she was employed as a librarian and also wrote the 'Gilman News' column for the weekly Coös County Democrat in Lancaster, NH. She successfully completed her certification as an EMT and served with the Gilman Rescue Squad for several years. She was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church in Gilman and St. Leo's Church in Lunenburg and served as a lector at both. She was also employed as the church secretary.
Betty is survived by her sister, Lorraine Marshall, her niece, Kathi Marshall (both of Jefferson, NH), and many other nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Her sister Colleen McBride and her brother, Miles Quigley Jr., died previously.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at All Saints Church in Lancaster. Rev. Raymond A. Ball will officiate. Burial will follow immediately at St. Matthew's Cemetery in Whitefield.
