MAIDSTONE, VT - Carl F. Ramsdell, 79, died Tuesday afternoon, April 13th, 2021 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long-time battle with Alzheimer's.
Carl was born in Whitefield on October 26, 1941 the son of George F. and Evelyn A. (Fountain) Ramsdell. He was raised in Dalton and was a graduate of Whitefield High School where he was a star athlete. He was also a graduate of Pierce Business College acquiring a degree in accounting.
Carl had a long career as a controller at paper mills in Groveton, Berlin and Maine, working for Diamond International Corporation, James River Corp and Crown Zellerbach. He was later employed as a business manager for SAU 58. For many years he served on the board of directors at Weeks Medical Center.
Carl was an avid golfer and he played in several men's leagues. He especially enjoyed golfing in his later years with his grandson Jeffrey. He participated for many years in men's basketball leagues and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the area. Carl most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Maidstone Lake where he has camped and/or lived for nearly 60 years.
Surviving family members include his wife of 59 years, Sandra (Page): daughters - Sharon Atkinson and her husband David of Maidstone, Michelle McManus and Walter of Fairfax, VA; 6 grandchildren - Sarah, Nicholas, Jeffrey, Tyler, Joshua, Ryan; 2 great-grandchildren, Levi a sister Marilyn Carlson of Concord, NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother John Ramsdell and a sister Rita Ramsdell.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Friday evening, April 23, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A graveside service will follow Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the Park Street Cemetery, Whitefield. Reverend Timothy Brooks, pastor of St. Paul's Church, Lancaster, will officiate. Facemasks and social distancing will be required.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held in July at Maidstone Lake
