LUNENBURG - Catherine P. McLaughlin, 99, of S. Lunenburg Road, died Sunday morning April 18, 2010, at her home.
Mrs. McLaughlin was born in Lunenburg on July 2, 1910, the daughter of John T. and Sarah (Hagan) Powell.
She was raised in Lunenburg and was a 1928 graduate of Lancaster Academy. For 25 years she and her late husband, Norman H. McLaughlin Sr., resided in Lancaster during which time they built and operated the Lancaster Motel and its restaurant.
Catherine enjoyed craftwork, particularly knitting, embroidery and hooking rugs. During her lifetime she hooked over 90 rugs and during her later years, with very poor eyesight, she made many scarves for the Toys for Tots program. She also enjoyed poetry, memorizing and reciting many of her favorites.
She was a Communicant of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lunenburg, and was a 50 year member of the Lunenburg Grange.
Family members include five children, Gloria McLaughlin of Lunenburg, Norman H. "Tom" McLaughlin Jr. of Lancaster, Mary Jane Colby and husband Amos of Lunenburg, Sally Beattie and husband Mike of Guildhall, Monica Eastman and husband Dana of Lunenburg; 14 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; and a sister Rita Bell of Lunenburg. Norman Sr. predeceased her in 1980.
At Catherine's request there are no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, April 21, at 10:00 AM, at All Saints Church in Lancaster. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.
