LANCASTER - Cathleen R. Gaynor, 92, of Lancaster, NH passed away at Weeks Medical Center on
Friday, November 22, 2013 after a lengthy and tenacious fight against cancer. This day would have been her 55
th
wedding anniversary.
She was born on February 11, 1921 in Hartland, Vermont, the daughter of Maxwell and Marion Crosby.
Cathy's family owned a small farm in Hartland and due to her father's ill health, a farm hand was needed to keep the farm operating, that farm hand later became her husband Rudy. Cathy loved horses and spent much of her time riding and working with horses.
Cathy graduated in 1938 from Windsor High School, Windsor, VT and was valedictorian of her graduating class. On November 22, 1958 she married Rudolph "Rudy" Gaynor and they made their home in Lancaster, NH. They purchased the Stone House from Rudy's Aunt and continued its farming operation raising Registered Horned Hereford Cattle. They enjoyed showing and exhibiting their cattle at local fairs. As Cathy often said the only vacations they ever took in their married life was to go look at bulls and buy a new one for the herd.
Cathy worked at many local businesses in her life and always held a position in the office where she enjoyed dealing with and meeting people. She worked at various businesses, including a lumberyard and mill, a bank, an insurance agency and most recently at The Spalding Inn in Whitefield, NH.
Cathy's favorite past times were visiting with people, playing cards and shopping. She loved to shop and look for a bargain and could outlast most of the people who tried to keep up with her.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and by her husband Rudy in 1989. Survivors include two daughters; Nancy Gaynor and Randy Perry of Brownsville, VT, Sally Gaynor-Knecht and her husband Stan of Lancaster, NH ; two granddaughters Shannon Knecht of Bangor, ME and Baillie Knecht of Lancaster, NH; a brother Roger Crosby of Bennington, VT, Nieces, Marilyn Harris, Susan Crosby, Lauren McKenna and Rachel Murray and nephews BJ White and Greg Harris. She also leaves behind several special friendships that have lasted for decades, Louise James (the sister she never had), Jack and Mary Tillotson, Janet Bronson, and Donna Hopps.
There will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 30
th
