DALTON- Charles H. Blakslee, 80, of Blakslee Road, died Wednesday morning October 11, 2006, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Blakslee was born in Whitefield, on October 24, 1925, the son of Herbert W. and Claribel (Curtis) Blakslee.
Charles was a lifetime resident of Dalton and a 1942 graduate of Dalton High School. For many years he worked as a dairy farmer operating the family farm in Dalton. For a time he was employed at Gilman Paper Company, Gilman, VT, but later returned to farming. He was a long time member of the Connecticut Valley Dairy Co-op, where he served as past president and was employed 1 ½ years as manager. He later purchased the Top-O-The Hill Store in Dalton, operating it for 21 years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad and was an avid hunter.
Other memberships include the Dalton Congregational Church of which he was past deacon and trustee, the Riverside Grange where he was past Worthy Master, and the National Dairy Association. He was also a volunteer fireman of the Dalton Fire Department.
Family members include in wife Rita (Falkenham) Blakslee of Dalton; a daughter Charlotte A. Nelson of Manchester; two sons Allen C. Blakslee of Dalton, Peter C. Blakslee of Littleton; 3 brothers; 3 sisters; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great granddaughters.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, October 17, from 4 to 7 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ, Reverend Virginia Alvarez, pastor, and Reverend Allen Swain, retired, will co-officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Johns River Cemetery, Dalton.
