He received his Bachelors degree from Harvard College in 1954. His devotion to his country led to his being commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant. In 1954 he served as an artillery officer in the 555th, 546th and 720th Field Artillery Battalions at Fort Lewis Washington until 1956. Charlie attained the rank of Captain prior to the completion of his military service.
Charlie worked for over ten years in personnel to include being the Director of Personnel at Dynamics Research in Stoneham, MA until 1969. He was the owner and manager of the Carroll County Company in North Conway, NH from 1969-72.
Charlie was a successful Realtor for over 20 years and 'Bond Associates' negotiated the sale of the 4,000 acre Waumbek property to the U.S. Forest Service in 1978. He worked as the Director of Workman's Compensation Division, Department of Labor in the state of Vermont from 1992-2000.
Charlie was a great believer in public service and encouraged and aided by his wife Marie, served both his community and his state in numerous capacities throughout his life. He served on the White Mountains Regional School Board for 14 years, with five as Chairman. He had a lifetime service as a firefighter in every town he lived in which he lived. He was a history buff especially in regards to New England as well as the Civil War. He especially enjoyed researching family genealogy. He had an affinity for Rome and it's history. Even though he was of Scottish, Irish and English ancestry, we always joked that he had the heart of a Roman. When he first visited Rome it was love at first sight.
Charlie was an avid mountain climber and completed every possible 'list' including the New Hampshire highest peaks and most of New England's highest.
The Jefferson local was kind and generous. He recently said, "I want it remembered that I really loved humanity" as evidenced by how he lived his life.
