Charles Howard Perkins

February 26, 1954 — July 3, 2015

LANCASTER - Charles Howard Perkins II, 61, also known as Chuck,

of Lancaster, New Hampshire,

passed away on July 3, 2015 from heart disease.

Chuck was born at the U. S. Navy Hospital in Bainbridge, Maryland on February 26, 1954, to Robert Edward Perkins, Sr. and Eleanor Perry Carleton Perkins. He grew up in various states in New England as his father transferred to various Air Force bases.

Chuck graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School, Kingstone,Mass. in 1972, entered the U.S. Navy, serving time on subs, USS Darter, USS Barbel and USS Providence, mostly out of Japan and the Philippines until 1993.  Once discharged, Chuck began civilian life, co-owning a business in Charleston, S. Carolina.  Upon learning of his father's illness, Chuck unselfishly gave up the business to move to Lancaster, New Hampshire to help his mom take care of him.  After his father's passing, Chuck stayed on to care for his mom, whom he called his best friend.

While in Lancaster Chuck worked at the town library, discovering a career he wished he had entered when he was younger.  He loved working with patrons, talking books, and researching information.  To his surprise, this old sailor became passionate about cooking and birding.  He read voraciously, and even wrote a novel.  He was an avid music and film buff, and if you spent any time with him at all, you discovered his love of jokes, and talent for storytelling.  Eventually Chuck developed heart disease, survived bypass surgery, thus gaining another year and a half with us.

He is predeceased by grandparents and namesake Charles H. Perkins, Sarah Brock Perkins; his parents; his brother Robert Edward Perkins, Jr.; uncle/aunt George Ernest Damato and Eleanor Perkins Damato; uncle/aunt Steven and Eleanor Carleton.  He leaves behind his sister, Beth Carleton Perkins Curtis; nephews Nathaniel Bohon Curtis, Nicolas Brock Curtis; sister-in-law Nancy Kite Perkins; nephews Stephen and Christopher Perkins; and 6 cousins Richard, Paul, Maureen (Gallant), and William Damato and families; Elizabeth Ann Carleton and William Carleton

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1 at the Weeks Memorial Library at 2:00 pm.  Please join us to share stories and celebrate a life kindly lived. Chuck will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery near his parents at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Heart Association in Chuck's name.
