GUILDHALL. - Charles (Charley) Schwirzer, 94, of Route 102 died Wednesday night July 9, 2014 at Country Village, Lancaster.
Charley was born in Weiden, Germany, on December 17, 1919, the son of John and Marie (Bingold) Schwirzer.
Charley came to the United States when he was 7 years old. He worked as a dental technician and butcher before being drafted into the Army during WW II. He went on to serve 3 years in the Pacific. Once Charley completed his service in the Army, he worked as a window washer in New York City for many years. He resided in New York City, Long Island, Queens, and the state of Maine. For a time he resided in the town of Groveton, NH while building his home in Guildhall. He was an avid reader and was a very talented artist who enjoyed painting, drawing and playing the violin.
Family members include his wife, Irene (Matta) Schwirzer of Guildhall; son, Michael Schwirzer of Windmoor, PA; two daughters, Marie Thompson of Lancaster, Edie Bell of Whitefield; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
There are no visiting hours. A memorial service with military honors will be held August 16 at 11:00 AM in the Guildhall, Guildhall, VT. Reverend Sharon van der Laan, pastor of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate.
