GUILDHALL - Chester C. "Chet" McLain, 91, of North Road, died at his home surrounded by his loving family Wednesday morning November 6, 2013.
Mr. McLain was born in Guildhall on May 1, 1922 the son of Clesson and Mary (Willard) McLain.
Chet was a lifetime Guildhall resident where he served as road agent, selectman and tree warden.
Sixty years of his life were devoted to the logging business and he was a partner of McLain Logging.
Chet had an interest in auto racing and was one of the founders and builders of Riverside Speedway in Groveton.
He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He also enjoyed spending time and visiting with friends and relatives.
Some of his favorite family activities included Jeep rides with his daughter Joan and golf cart rides with his great-grandson Austin.
Surviving family members include his wife Jean (Carr) McLain of Guildhall; a son Reginald and his wife Kelly of Guildhall; two daughters Joan Ball and husband James of Gilman, June Carr of Gilman; a stepson Richard Dresser of Gilman; a step-daughter Michelle Sargent of Tennessee; two grandchildren Ryan McLain and his girlfriend Shirley Sweatt of Guildhall, Nikki McLain of Groveton; a great-grandson Austin McLain of Guildhall; and a twin brother Chesley McLain of Groveton.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ola M. McLain; three brothers, George, Franklin, Lyle; and a sister Mary.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening November 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at the Guildhall Community Church.
Rev. Sharon van der Laan will officiate.
Burial will follow in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.
