Lancaster, NH- Claude H. Reed, 74 passed away on Monday August 5, 2013 at Weeks Medical Center. He was born in Lancaster on January 19, 1939 a son to the late Kenneth and Mary (Brooks) Reed.
Mr. Reed grew up in Jefferson; attending and graduating from Berlin High School. Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon his discharge from the Army Mr. Reed spent the next 35 years as a state bridge inspector.
Mr. Reed loved to read, soaking up as much information and knowledge as possible. He also enjoyed riding snow machines and four wheelers and going to Loudon to watch the races. Hunting was his favorite pastime. Mr. Reed was a member of the Free & Accepted Mason's, a Life Time member of the American Legion and VFW posts in Groveton as well as the Military Order of the Cooties. He also was a member of the Lancaster Planning Board, Kilkenny Trail Riders and he has played Santa for the Toys for Tots since 1962.
Mr. Reed was pre deceased by his parents and a brother Kenneth Reed. He is survived by his wife Betty (Collins) Reed, a son Ralph Bennett and his wife Cindy, two daughters Joyce Bernier and her husband Richard, Jodie England and her husband David, a sister Dottie Megna and her husband Nelson, a sister in law Nellie Collins, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday August 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A funeral will be held on Thursday August 8 at the Christ United Methodist Church at 11 AM with burial to follow in the Summer Street Cemetery.
