Clayton John Hicks

JEFFERSON, NH- Clayton John Hicks, 93, passed away quietly, on Friday March 28, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center. His daughter Jennifer, son in-law David and Granddaughter Erin were at his side.

Mr. Hicks was born in Jefferson on January 28, 1915, a son of Forrest and Albertina (Dorr) Hicks.

Clayton was a life long resident of Jefferson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked many jobs over the years in order to support his family. Including working as a Logger, farmer, truck driver, heavy equipment operator and deliveryman.

Pappy gained pleasure from the simple things in life, travel, the outdoors, good food, but his greatest joy and pride came from his family and many friends.

He leaves eight children, Clayton Thayer Hicks and wife Cathy of Plymouth, NH; Edward Kent Hicks and wife Ann of Jefferson; Wanda Lacasse and husband Ted of Berlin; John Hicks and wife Crystal of Virginia Beach, VA; Forrest Hicks and wife Bonnie of Jefferson; William Hicks and wife Linda of Whitefield; Bruce Hicks and wife Sheila of Jefferson and Jennifer Foster and husband David of Jefferson; twenty seven grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; a sister Audrey Daily of Tonawanda, NY; his sister in-law Betty Gainer of Lancaster; and a brother in-law Ted Clukay of Jefferson. He is also survived by, the children of Lois Kenison with whom he had a special relationship. They include Deana Colborn and husband George, Lynn Clark and husband Bill, Tim Kenison and wife Jeannie and Terry Kenison and wife Diana. He was predeceased by, his wife Patricia (Thayer) Hicks and later Lois Kenison, as well as a daughter Katherine Hicks Mathieu.

Visiting hours will be held Monday March 31, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery, Jefferson.
