Cynthia 'Cid' Jeffery Southworth

Cid Southworth, of Lancaster, NH, died peacefully on August 16

th

with her loving family by her side. She was 66 years old.

Cid was born in Albuquerque, NM to Robert Emmitt Jeffery and Hannah McIntyre Jeffery. The daughter of a US Naval officer she grew up around the US, as well as in Italy and Malta, though always considered the family homestead in Randolph, VT her home.

She attended the University of Vermont, graduating with a BA in Sociology in 1966. During college, she met her lifelong love, Harrison Southworth, whom she married in 1969. Harry and Cid started their family in State College, PA where their two children Dana and Georgia were born.

Cid and her family moved to Lancaster in 1977, and she became an active and dedicated member of the local community. From a decade of teaching swimming at the Colonel Town Pool to organizing and running the local Red Cross Blood Bank to working at the White Mountains Regional High School, she positively affected many people. Cid's commitment to improving the lives of young people led her to establish the Lancaster Juvenile Court Diversion Program. These among numerous other civic efforts defined who she was and earned her the Volunteer of the Year Award in Lancaster in 1993.

Cid was an avid golfer and enjoyed canoe rides on Martin Meadow Pond. Her kitchen was a favorite place for friends and family to enjoy a cup of good coffee and conversation about local goings on and national politics. Cid enjoyed the company of many fine cats over the years as well as summer band concerts and listening to Red Sox broadcasts.

Cid was predeceased in 2010 by her husband of 41 years, Harry Southworth. She is survived by her son Dana Southworth and wife Izabela and their sons David and Robert of Lancaster, NH, her daughter Georgia Southworth and husband Wesley Hoffman and their sons Felix and Casper of New York City, and her sister Hannah (Nan) Gwin of Randolph, VT, as well as the extended Southworth and McIntyre families.

Memorial visiting hours will be held at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster on Thursday, August 23

rd

from 5-8 p.m., and there will be a service at the Congregational Church in Lancaster on Friday August 24

th

at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cid's memory to the Colonel Town Recreation Department, P.O. Box 110, Lancaster, NH   03584.
