DALTON- Daniel E. Emerson, 62, died Saturday December 18, 2010, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Emerson was born in Lancaster on July 18, 1948, a son of Everett Emerson Jr. and Dorothy (Rooney) Emerson Phillips.

Dan was raised in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster Academy. He served 25 years in the US Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. During his service worked for the Public Work Center at the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia. He moved to Dalton in 2001.

He tinkered on cars and kept himself busy with many projects, like refinishing furniture and taking care of his family property. He enjoyed camping and his animals and was also an avid racecar fan.

Dan was known for his dedication for volunteering his time to many organizations such as Poppy Drives and Toys For Tots.

Memberships include the John Weeks VFW Post 3041, Lancaster, the Military Order of the Cooties and the Fredonwarell American Legion Post 17, Groveton.

He is survived by, a son Robert Fountain of Dalton and his three children, Tina Heard, Jeana Morse and Kathleen Fountain and Robert's wife Cathleen of Dalton and her three children. A daughter Susan Williams and her husband David Sr. of Dalton and their four children, David Williams Jr., Matthew Williams, Emmalee Williams and Kristin Williams and 9 great grand children, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife Jean (McGinty) Emerson and two brothers Raymond Emerson and Charles Emerson predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held Monday evening December 27, from 6-9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church of Lancaster. Reverend Richard Boyden, pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church, Colebrook will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in the Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.

Donations in lieu of flowers maybe made in his memory to the John Weeks VFW General Fund, PO Box 147, Lancaster, NH 03584, to be used for the Building Fund or Toys for Tots.
