Daniel J. Truland

LANCASTER - Daniel J. Truland, 84, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Mo and Gil Rainault in Guildhall, Vermont.

Mr. Truland was born in Lancaster on February 17, 1923, the son of Daniel James and Mary (Robinson) Truland.

Dan was a lifetime resident of Lancaster graduating from Lancaster Academy in 1941. He also gradated from Holy Cross in 1944 and attended Rutgers University and the University of New Hampshire. During World War II he served with the US Army. For 39 years he was co-owner of F. B. Spaulding Company in Lancaster.

He served his community well, as a Boy Scout leader, trustee of Weeks Memorial Hospital, Lancaster National Bank Director, Weeks Hospital Volunteer, installed Lifeline systems, and was a longtime member of the Lancaster Ambulance Corp. In 1988 he was voted Lancaster Citizen of the Year.  He also worked as a funeral attended at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, for many years.

He was a Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the American Radio Relay League, the Quarter Century Wireless Association, the Civil Air Patrol, the American Motorcyclist Association, and the Whitefield American Legion.

Surviving family members include his wife 53 years to Shirley (Moulton) Truland of Lancaster; four sons: Kevin Truland and his wife Colleen of Lancaster, Bruce Truland and his wife Yao of Lancaster, Earl Truland and his wife Sharon of Riverhead, NY, Alan Truland of Dalton; three daughters, Lynnette Siteman and her husband Frank, of Winchester, MA, Maureen Rainault husband Gil of Guildhall, VT, and Kathy Truland of Lancaster; ten grandchildren, Jacob Cote, Jonathan Ingerson, Jason Truland, Ben and his wife Koryn Ingerson, Taylor Ingerson, Jordan and her husband Jason Chester, Matt Truland, Jillian Bessette, Tyler Grieves and Genna Truland, and great-granddaughter-to-be, Lillian Ingerson. He is also survived by his only sister, Sister Maureen (Margaret) Truland OSB, who lives in Clyde, Mo.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday afternoon and evening December 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A rosary service will be held at 6:45 PM with the Knights of Columbus at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at All Saints Church. Rev. Raymond Ball, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at the Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to have donations go to the All Saints Catholic Church, Handicap Accessibility Fund, Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584 for a stair lift in the parish hall.
