David P. Dorben

LANCASTER - David P. Dorben, 78, of Mechanic Street, died at home Sunday evening August 16, 2020. His wife and daughter were by his side.

Mr. Dorben was born in McKees Rocks, PA, on September 7, 1941, the son of John and Catherine (Snyder) Dorben.

For many years he was employed as shipping supervisor for the Stinehour Press and was an active Communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster.

David was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army. Inspired by his time there he decided to dedicate his life to helping children and his community. He was a member and past president of the Lions Club, he taught CCD at All Saints Church, and volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America and Project Homebound. David will be best loved and remembered for his coaching at Colonel Town Recreation. For 22 years he coached Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken baseball leagues having had the pleasure of coaching local children and eventually the children's children. He also spent many years coaching basketball.

Surviving family members include his wife Joanne (O'Connor) Dorben of Lancaster; his daughter Catherine "Katie" Dorben of Lancaster; siblings Robert Dorben, James Dorben, Thomas Dorben, and Shirley Chapman all of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Jack Dorben and two sisters, Georgia Augustine and JoAnn Fialon.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 29th, at 10:30 AM, at All Saints Church in Lancaster. Reverend Raymond Ball, pastor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Concord, will officiate.
