LANCASTER - Dean E. Walts Jr., Lancaster Business Man and Community Leader passed away December 21, 2006.

Dean was born April 4

, 1962 in Watertown, NY the son of Dean and Suzanne Walts. Raised in Canton, NY he was a 1980 graduate of Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton. He was an outstanding wrestler at Canton High School and a 1980 Section 10 wrestling champion. Dean was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his camp on the St. Lawrence River, water sports, parasailing and walking on his mountain with his dog, Keon. He also graduated top of class at Ohio Diesel Tech College and was an accomplished black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

He owned and operated Dalton Mountain GMC and Dalton Mountain Motor Sports, a flourishing GMC Dealership and retailer of ATV's, snowmobiles, motorcycles, boats and trailers. Dean was proud of the fact that Dalton Mountain Motor Sports has been named NH Snowmobile Dealer of the Year five consecutive years. He single handedly built both dealerships from the ground up and took pride in the fact the he employed 27 local people who he thought of as family.

Not only was Dean involved with family and friends he was also deeply invested and committed to his community. He was a member of the Lancaster Snow Drifters, Phoenix Group, and the Bombardier Top Gun club. Dean also served on the Lancaster School Board and as an assistant wrestling coach at the White Mountain Regional High School. He was also a former member of the National Dealer council for General Motors, with both dealerships winning extensive awards in overall excellence. Dean also gave generous anonymous donations throughout the community.

Surviving family members include his parents, Dean and Suzanne Walts of Morristown NY and St. George Island, FL; a brother Nicholas, his wife Shelley and their daughter Emiley of Hampton, NH; two sisters, Wendy Falvey of Canton, NY, and her son Christopher of Smyrna, TN; Tracy Elliott of Canton, NY, her husband David and their children Allison, Morgan and Maggie; grandmother Opal Ritchie of Theresa, NY; his business partner and long time friend Lisa Nast, her daughter Stacey and dog Jeeter along with many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Everett and Rose Walts of Evans Mills, NY and his beloved dogs Keon and Tasha.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 1:00 PM, at the White Mountain Regional High School Auditorium, Whitefield, NH. An additional memorial service will be held at a later date in Canton/Morristown, NY, area.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to a local humane society or a charity of your choice.
