Donald (Don) Gordon Fogg, Sr., passed away on June 17, 2018 at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, NH, two days shy of his 88th birthday and of the 70th wedding anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife Jeannette Forbes Fogg. Don was born in Putney, Vt, as the second to the oldest of 9 children to Frank and Florence Whitcomb Fogg.
He was the very proud father of his seven children and their families: Donald Fogg Jr. and wife Linda, Alan Fogg and wife Lorna, Robert Fogg and wife Janice, Cheryl Fogg Gregoire and husband Robert, Brian Fogg and wife Jacki, Scott Fogg and wife Ann, and Jeannine Fogg Brady and husband Winfield. He was predeceased by two granddaughters and his oldest brother. He was a devoted grandfather to 30 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and counting. He recently became a great-great grandfather with the birth of his first great-great-grandson Ethan.
Beginning with his dream to be his own boss and with a small and rocky dairy farm on Poverty Lane in Lebanon, NH, Don was always and forever a dairy farmer. He brought a deep and enduring love of the land and the cows to farming that, along with his hard work, calloused hands, and long hours, provided for his family for so many years. He and Jean moved their family and their small herd of Jersey cows from Lebanon to the Island Farm in Lisbon, NH, where Don became known for practicing some of the most progressive dairy farming techniques in the state. He and Jean, with sons Alan, and Robert moved the farm and all their families once again to Northumberland, NH where they established one of the largest dairy operations in NH at the time.
Donald was very active in his community and served as a Lisbon Selectman, and volunteer fireman and he was a director on several bank boards, including Agri-Mark and Farm Credit. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and served as King Lion in the Lisbon Lions Club. Don was a member of several other community organizations and was an active volunteer at the Caleb Group in Whitefield. Wherever he lived, Don was always involved with the church, most recently as a deacon and trustee at the Community Baptist Church of Whitefield.
In his retirement he was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman and he loved making toys and useful things for his family and friends. His creations, especially his wonderful handmade rocking horses, are scattered across the country.
Calling hours will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster, NH on Wednesday, June 20. Services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 21, at the Community Baptist Church of Whitefield, NH.
