LANCASTER – Doris “Dodie” Ellen Stone Bergeron, 92, was welcomed into Eternal Life on May 31, 2023, after a long struggle with dementia.
Dodie was born the daughter of Reginald and Marion (Murtaugh) Stone in Lancaster on June 30, 1930. She graduated from Lancaster Academy and then attended Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. She married Noel L. Bergeron, the love of her life, on September 5, 1951 and raised seven children as an active Army wife, while traveling all over the United States. Dodie was predeceased by her parents, Noel (February 5, 1988), her daughter, Jeanne “Babe” Bergeron (November 17, 2009) and her brothers, Reginald A. Stone and Reynold J. Stone.
Dodie is survived by her children: Carol A. Hewson (Jim); Noel B. Bergeron (Alicia); Brad R. Bergeron (Debra); Annette L. (Bo) Bergeron; Judith M. Bergeron (James Horton) and Roberta F. Bergeron (Tony Ovens), as well as 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carol “Binky” Bailey (Ronald) and her cousin, JoAnne Ricardi (Richard).
Prior to her illness, Dodie was a very active parishioner at Gate of Heaven Parish/All Saints Church. For many years, she would take a break from Lancaster winters, and spend some time as a “winter Texan” in Port Aransas. Despite her struggles with memory, Dodie always had a beautiful smile on her face, which was etched with lines from a lifetime of laughing, smiling and loving.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at the Summit Memory Care Unit (Whitefield, NH) and the North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency (Littleton, NH) for their loving care and outstanding support during Dodie’s final years.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Fr. Matt Mason at 10 AM on June 30, 2023, at Gate of Heaven Parish, All Saints Church, in Lancaster, followed by interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dodie’s memory to The Summit by Morrison (Memory Care Unit), North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency or Gate of Heaven Catholic Parish at
